Biofilm Control

The company was founded in 2005 by Dr Thierry Bernardi and Nicolas Bara to develop the BioFilm Ring Test (R) technology and to bring it to the  market.
From 2005 to 2008, BioFilm Control was hosted by INRA, the French National institute for Agronomic Research, in the framework of a partnership to validate the BioFilm Ring Test (R)
In 2008, the company moved to new premises at the Biopôle Clermont-Limagne, building up a 200m² laboratory comprising a P2 lab. Several academic partnerships led to the publication of numerous publications, enabling international commercial expansion in 2009.
The company is funded by a balanced mix of private capital, venture capital and commercial incomes.

Role/activity of the entity in the project:

In this project, BioFilm Control proposes its platform of high throughput screening to evaluate and measure the carbohydrates potential of preventing different pathogenic strains adhesion.
The most active molecules which can be coated on different kinds of surfaces, are then proposed to others GIMs academic partners.
Finally, BioFilm Control can operate conventional methods such as Cristal Violet and can have access to a microscopy platform to confirm the coating results.

Key people involved in the project :

Stéphanie Badel-Berchoux –  Project Manager at BioFilm Control
Stephanie Badel-Berchoux obtained her PhD in Microbiology/Biochemistry and worked on the screening of exopolymers producing microorganisms and on the detection of depolymerizing enzymes with the BioFilm Ring Test®. This work was operated in the “Génie Chimique et Biochimique” Laboratory in Clermont-Ferrand (France). Previously she followed a double Major in Biological Engineering from Polytech Clermont-Ferrand and in Human Nutrition and Food Sciences (Master).

Thierry Bernardi – CEO BioFilm Control
Thierry Bernardi, Pharm. D, is the leading founder of BioFilm Control and he is also the leading inventor of the BioFilm Ring Test®. He co-authored 7 peer reviewed publications and 4 patent applications. Prior to founding BioFilm Control he held several general management and business development positions at Aurigene BioSystems (France), Genesystems and Nucleica, two start-up in the field of DNA detection technologies (France), and at Applied BioSystems. He graduated and earned in 1991 his Pharm.D from University of Montpellier (France).
